Deck25 White Handrail System

White Composite Handrail System: Low Maintenance

Decks over 400mm off the ground should have a safety barrier or a handrail system.

The white composite handrail system is similar to the brown composite handrail system but is designed for much faster installation.

The post system is a sleeve system. The structural work is carried out in treated timber, including specially sized, treated and sealed posts, which may or may not be concreted into the ground and integrated into the structure of the deck. Normally 2.4m or 3.0m posts are concreted into the ground at 1.8m apart. The post carries up through the deck to 1.2m above deck level. The composite brown sleeve is slipped over the post and rests on the deck. The post skirt is then slid down to hide the expansion gap left between the deck boards and the post. The post cap completely seals the post system (life span of 25 years plus.)

The base rail of the handrail system is positioned and fixed between the completed post systems. An anti-sag piece of spindle just slides into place. All of the spindles are positioned in the top rail first, then the sub assembly (the top rail with spindles inserted) is positioned above the already fixed base rail. Each spindle is lined up and then the subassembly is dropped into place. The brackets on each side are then screwed to the post systems on each side. Each handrail section should take 2 professionals no longer than 20 minutes to complete.
